Recent revelations from the book The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte by Kristin Baver shed light on a deleted scene that could have changed everything.
The finale, as we know it, ended with Vernestra consulting Yoda after Sol's demise. While a cover-up of the Jedi's murder and the return of her apprentice, Qimir, seemed likely, the original script intended to showcase Vernestra's unwavering commitment to the Jedi Order's integrity.

But why was this scene left on the cutting room floor? Headland explains, "It felt odd to conclude Vernestra's story and then bring her back for a Yoda conversation. It didn't fit in the edit, but I dearly miss it. I'm saddened by its removal."

She wasn't shocked by the decision itself but rather by the manner in which it was handled. "The swiftness and public nature of the cancellation surprised me. I was taken aback by the process. But when I received calls about the reaction, criticism, and viewership, I knew it was inevitable. The show's performance was unclear to me because, in the Star Wars universe, success isn't measured locally but against all other Star Wars shows. We achieved Nielsen ratings a few times, but I believe a first-season show experimenting with new ideas deserved a chance to find its audience. Unfortunately, that decision wasn't mine to make."
Headland also addresses the online backlash and media criticism the show received. "I have personal thoughts on this, but I'll keep it concise. I avoided online discussions, but as a Star Wars fan, I've been part of the recap/criticism/lionization fandom community since YouTube's inception. Friends and colleagues expressed concern about the negative reception, and I knew the critics personally. I supported them on Patreon; some I respect, others I see as opportunists, and then there are the extremists. This experience made me realize that studios view fan engagement as a focus group, which can lead to a misunderstanding of fan culture. Rather than blaming toxic fans, I believe the content created around Star Wars may have a more significant cultural impact than the franchise itself."
Previously, Headland disclosed that Qimir, played by Manny Jacinto, was destined to become the first Knight of Ren, a Sith cult led by Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy. This revelation aligned with fan theories and would have connected the High Republic Era to the sequels while providing much-needed backstory on the Knights of Ren, who remained shrouded in mystery in the recent Star Wars films.
