Amazon Prime Video has halted its AI-driven video recaps after a notable mishap in Fallout drew viewers’ scrutiny. The streaming service rolled out Video Recaps for testing last month, but the feature is now missing from titles involved in the test, including Fallout, The Rig, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, and Bosch.
Designed to leverage artificial intelligence to distill a show’s major plot points into a compact video—with an AI narrator and clips from the series—the recap for Fallout season one contained several inaccuracies. Notably, it claimed that a flashback involving The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) took place in “1950s America” rather than in the game’s 2077 setting, a mistake first spotted by GamesRadar.
Additionally, the AI voiceover asserted that Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) faced a binary choice from The Ghoul—either to “die or leave with him.” In reality, the situation is more nuanced: Lucy could have joined The Ghoul or stayed where she was, risking an attack from the Brotherhood of Steel.
According to Amazon, AI-powered recaps are intended to appear on a series’ detail page when a viewer navigates to the next season of a supported show. However, those recap videos have now disappeared from the platform. The Verge contacted Prime Video for comment but did not receive an immediate reply.
